Alice in Wonderland - Years 3-6

Well done to the children in Years 3-6 for another brilliant production! This year we enjoyed a performance of Alice in Wonderland.

K'Nex Challenge - 2026 regional winners!

Congratulations to Finley and Callum in Sandpiper Class for being the regional winners of the 2026 K'Nex Challenge! Three expert judges reviewed over 300 entries, and chose their rocket as the winning design!

Well done to our District Athletics team for taking part in this year's event. Lots of great team work, encouragement and perseverance as well as some medals!

Sports Day

Visit to Church - learning about Communion

Years 3-6 visited Reverend Kathryn in Church as part of our RE lessons. She spoke about the importance of the Last Supper and how the symbols and words are woven through Communion services. The children asked brilliant questions during the visit.

SATs Week

Well done to the Year 6 children for facing SATs week with big smiles on their faces. You were all such brilliant company at the breakfast club each morning.

Fete Performances

The children have worked incredibly hard on their country dancing, Maypole routines, and whole school songs and loved performing to parents before the 'big' day on Monday!

World Book Day

Amongst all the lovely class activities, our favourite was having so many parents and loved ones visit to read in classes! A wonderful afternoon to help promote the joy of reading - thank you all for coming!

Golf Sessions with Brocket Hall

We are really lucky to have a great community partnership with Brocket Hall. Years 3-6 enjoyed a visit from the Brocket Golf team. We practised our putting and driving skills in a range of activities and games!

Our school choir had a fantastic time singing festive songs at Brocket Hall for the 'Brocket' Babies'. Our annual visit is always greatly enjoyed by the children and the guests in attendance.

Remembrance Service at Church

The whole school gathered on 11th November with a Remembrance Service at Church. Each class made bunting linked to peace, hope and remembrance. We said prayers, laid stones to create a remembrance cairn, stood together in silence, and laid wreaths at the tree.

A visit for Years 3-6 from Andrew Lewin, the MP for Welwyn and Hatfield

Children in School and Eco Councils asked brilliant questions, and it was very interesting to learn more about the role of an MP and what happens in Parliament. It was a fantastic way to get ready for UK Parliament Week and we appreciated the informative answers from Andrew.

Outdoor learning Week

We have had a fantastic Outdoor Learning Week with the very timely appearance of summer making it ideal for the activities that have taken place. Most of the learning this week has been in the school grounds including weaving with natural resources, Maths challenges, scavenger hunts, Art and more. The children have taken time to appreciate nature and to focus on our environment. All classes have used a book called ‘Not A Stick’ to develop their creativity – it is amazing what a stick can transform into with a little bit of imagination. Class 4 have visited St Alban’s Cathedral and Class 3 have walked down to Lemsford Springs. Many thanks to parents who have been in school to support many of these activities.

St John's Charity Cake Bake

The school council came up with the idea of a Charity Cake Bake and Sale. They wanted to raise funds for a local cancer charity and chose the Isabel Hospice. The children were invited to create cakes on a book theme and to bring them into school for judging. All kinds of cakes were made including a pirate ship, a 'Happea Birthday Harry' cake, Jungle Book cupcakes and so much more. The School Council and House Reps judged the cakes and the winners were given a prize. Following on from the Cake Sale we are delighted to say that the children raised £126 for the Isabel Hospice. Bailey Robinson, a fund-raising co-ordinator from the Isabel Hospice, came into school to accept the money raised and to have a photo shoot with the school council, who had thought of organising a charity Cake Bake Sale. All the children who entered the competition received a certificate in a Celebration Assembly with the five children who scored the highest marks given a prize. The School Council and House Captains judged the entries giving points for effort, appearance and taste. Well done to everyone who took part!
