On Wednesday 18th June we had our third RE enrichment day. As the day was part of our outdoor learning week, we focussed on the role of nature in the bible, with each class exploring different stories and themes.
The day built on our first Enrichment Day which focused on the St Alban’s Diocese's Heart for the Earth resources with each class focused on a different part of the bible.
Robins and Starlings took part in a series of workshops based on bible stories which included animals – Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Jonah and the Whale, Noah and the Ark. They listened to and discussed each story and created some beautiful art, including lion masks, Noah’s ark, the collage of the whale and a den.
Kingfishers explored where they would find the creation in the story, thinking of Genesis meaning origin. They explored what happened each day and the impact this had. They had a fantastic discussion on what the most important creation was / least important! They took part in a 'Creation Scavenger Hunt' where they found natural items to represent each day of the creation story e.g. a feather to represent 'the birds to fill the sky'. They then created our own hanging creation decorations, thinking carefully about the order in which we ordered them.
Sandpipers Class explored the Psalms, finding passages that linked to creation and nature. They had fantastic discussions about the power of God, appreciation for the world they live in, and considered how they can use our words and actions to look after the earth and each other. They used leaves and acrylic paints to create prints, adding a chosen Psalm to our piece.
