PSHE at St. John's

PSHE Vision statement

At St John’s C of E Primary, it is our intent that we implement our vision of John 10:10 through all areas of school life, including the curriculum.

“I came that they have life and have it abundantly” John 10:10

Our vision underpins our commitment to nurturing the whole child as they grow through their time at with us. At St. John’s, our PSHE curriculum is an important part of enabling our children to ‘have life abundantly.’

PSHE education is a planned, developmental programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE education develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. ’National Curriculum 2014

Intent:

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to encourage all children to be unique, positive and mindful individuals. Our PSHE programme supports our vision statement, which is based upon: Living God’s love every day, Inspiration for all to be the best that we can be, Forgiveness of others and for ourselves so we can all flourish and Equality of opportunity; welcoming all (LIFE.)

Implementation:

We implement our PSHE curriculum through a scheme of work – Jigsaw which is followed by each of our classes. Jigsaw offers a comprehensive programme for primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.

Impact:

Our PSHE programme helps our children to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens. They learn a variety of life skills including how to recognise and manage their emotions, how to question and how to form opinions. Our core values, including love, respect, tolerance and honesty, are strengthened and promoted through the children’s learning in PSHE.
